Iron bru for the win.
Edinburgh might just be my favourite place in the UK, the fresh air guarantees a good nights sleep and it’s big enough not to be bombarded with tourists - the anti social travellers dream. There’s even a beach, one cannot top that in London.
If you’re coming for the day, it’s the perfect place to have a nosy and grab the train home at night with time to spare. Start off by coming out of Waverley and heading up to the old town. Go via the pretty street where scran brunch is and lots of jelly cat shops winding round to the royal mile. Head towards the castle day or night to see street shows, fringe territory, and hear the bag pipes played by a professional thank the lord. The castle will be beautifully lit by the evening sky or night lights. You choose by are pretty. Next I’d go down via the steps next to the castle car park toll towards the old town square and Mary’s milk bar. You get a nice picture of the castle standing next to cold town house brew. Mary’s milk bar just wow for ice cream.
Best way is to head up the colourful street at the top of the square great for pics and you’ve got to see greyfriars Bobby whilist in the area. Landmarks are ticked off.
Experience wise the Edinburgh gin tasting is perfection on every level. You get to try many different gins all for £25 and leave with samples which is a nice touch or a roadie as the Americans would call it. The marshmallow lady does one of a kind hot chocolates which are an experience in themselves. Roasted and toasted. Wow.
I’d spend the afternoon having a stroll tk Portobello beach, where you can watch the waves crash and grab a slice of Civerino’s pizza. They do the best dollar slices (more than a dollar) around which are basically a whole pizza for one person. Slice stops and restaurants are dotted in and out of town. You could take the more traditional route and grab some salty chips on the side or sea food and a pint - your choice. Alternatively a wander to Stockbridge and a browse of the charity shops followed by a coffee and cake is top tier. Stop by Dean’s Village on route back to the new town for some insta worthy snaps.
The piste resistance on a trip is a few nice bars to round it off. For student vibes and a buzzing atmosphere stop by the Three Sisters, great sport, cheap pints and good vibes. Le Monde serve top tier exquisite cocktails and the candy bar cater also for cocktails but on the cheaper end of the spectrum, think more £5. Whatever brings you to Edinburgh you won’t be disappointed.
