Poznan party.

Sorry, where? That was the general response from family and friends, when they asked what my destination of choice was for the day. Poznan in poland was what I had said. Yes it’s not the most known place in Poland, but it’s one of the prettiest, cleanliest and safest I’ve ventured to. If you find yourself there, here’s a run down on what’s hot.

Transport wise the Free Now taxi app is a godsend. A bit like Uber but cheaper, the 25 minute ride from the airport to the town centre was £4.50. Anyone can see this is cheap compared to £10 plus for five minutes in the UK.

If you’re visiting in summer or winter, check out Malta Ski. A short taxi ride from the centre, you can book beginner and advanced ski lessons on their dry slope. Only catch is you’ll need to book at least a day ahead. All equipment can be rented which is a nice touch. In summer they also have an alpine coaster, carousel and zip wire over the lake. This is a real gem and exceptionally cheap with ski lessons starting at what equates to £10. Walk round the lake in front of the slope and you get to see the rowing centre and its various cafes and playparks. There’s a pool with the most slides I’ve seen, a bungee jump onto the lake and mini beach complete with straw umbrellas. Running nearer the town you’ve got a miniature railway. The most eclectic mix but a delight for all ages. If you pop Stary Brewer into maps, this will bring you to a main shopping centre nee converted brewery. It’s a nice route and allows you to meander through the centre. The food court encompasses a mix of traders and is a nice stop off if looking for some more mainstream cuisine.

The lake is within walking distance of the city. Head to Stary Rynek on the map. This is the main square, exceptionally pretty, and famous red church. Indulge in tourist tat and bars. On the north side of the square is E Wendells. Specialising in hot chocolate this place serves everything from scrambled eggs and waffles to truffles and cocktails. The tasting menu was a nice way to sample the menu and works out at £3 each when split between two people. It’s incredibly sweet so a taster is more than enough. The square contains lovely bars, restaurants full of life and pretty tables which wait for hungry passers by to adourn them. If in doubt Just Friends is top notch dining.

Looking to immerse yourself in culture? Head to the national museum which is just a short walk from the square. If you’re a student (bring ID), you can enter for the grand price of 20p. Huge building, lots of corridors and gallery’s to get lost in and really cheap post cards to make you seem cultured when sending musings back home. Proletaryat is a communist bar also near the centre, quite the memorabilia experience. You’ll see street art littered around the centre. Most noticeably it appears in nowowiejskiego 17, ogrodowa 5, za bramka 7 , Piekary 5 and Marcinkowskiego 26.

Flights into Poznan airport can be picked up for under £35 with the likes of Ryanair from most UK airports, that’s less than a train ticket. What are you waiting for?
